What to do in Marrakech?
Let's start from the beginning...

1. svegliarsi all'alba con l'appello alla preghiera del muezzin e poi, visto che ormai siete svegli, fare un paio di foto al sole che sorge prima di rimettervi a nanna...

1. get up at dawn woken up by the muezzin doing the prayer call. Then take a couple of pictures of the rising sun before to go back to bed...
2. Cercare di comunicare con il venditore di noccioline che non parla una parola di francese...anzi forse un paio...come noi di arabo d'altronde! (ma ci stiamo lavorando...)

2. Try to communicate with the peanuts seller, who doesn't speak a word of french...well, maybe one or two...like us in arab anyway! (but we're working on it...)

3. Comprare un gioiello berbero o un tappeto...evitando di farsi vendere 4 collane, 6 braccialetti, 3 sciarpe e 4 tappeti...e soprattutto cercando di arrivare ad un prezzo accettabile dopo mezz'ora di contrattazione e due bicchieri di tè alla menta...

3. Buy a berber jewel or a carpet...trying to avoid to go home with 4 necklaces, 6 bracelets, 3 scarves and a 4 carpets...and, more important, trying to get a right price, after half an hour of negotiations and 2 glasses of mint tea...

4. Per rifarsi da tutte queste fatiche ci si può poi offrire un servizio completo all'hammam! Bagno di vapore, gommage al sapone nero, maschera per il corpo alle alghe e infine...un super massaggio rilassante!!!!!

4. if you fill a litlle tired after all this work...you can go to the hammam! Steam bath, body scrub with black soap, body mask with seaweeds and finally...a wonderfull relaxing massage!!!!!

5. Ecco per ben concludere direi che non rimane che fermarsi a mangiare un bel tajine fumante al pollo, carne, verdure...come volete, ma con tante spezie ed erbette profumate!

5. Well, at the end I think you just need to stop and savour a tajine. with chiken, beef, vegetables...whatever you want, but with a lot of flavouring spices!

Ecco una foto di Francesca che ci è venuta a trovare a gennaio, ufficialmente per portarmi le piante di fragola e lampone che sto usando per il mio lavoro all'università...ma ho approfittato per farle visitare un po' la città...

Abbiamo anche cercato di mimetizzarci con la popolazione locale...ma con scarsi risultati!!!

Poi anche i miei genitori sono venuti a trovarci...

Con loro abbiamo visitato la città e dintorni:

la kasbah di Telounet...

la valle dell'Ourika, dove si può mangiare un'appetitoso tajine sul greto del fiume e prendere il sole...sì...anche a gennaio!

E' carnevale! (cioè sì lo so, è appena finito...ma dai, è solo un piccolo dettaglio...)
Mia sorella con un'amica quest'anno si è sbizzarrita a creare delle maschere di carta pesta.

It’s carnival time!
My sister with a friend this year were very inspired and created these masks in….help me….I don’t know the English word for “cartapesta”…Anyway, aren’t they wonderful??? Good job Lisa and Giulia!!!!

OUT OF MARRAKECH part 2: cascades de l'Ouzud

Intono a Marrakech ci sono tanti paesaggi diversi. non ci sono solo paesaggi aridi e brulli, ci sono anche valli un po' più verdi, dove l'acqua c'è. ci sono addirittura delle cascate alte 110 m!!!!

Out of Marrakech there are not only dry countryside and goats. there are as well green valleys with a wonderful fall (110 m!!!!).

Per attraversare il fiume, visto che il ponte è ormai completamente arrugginito e instabile, ci sono pittoresche zattere, che galleggiano su bidoni vuoti, abbellite con piante e fiori finti.

To cross the river, since the only bridge is rusty and broken, there are picturesque punts, floating thanks to empty tanks and decorated with fake flowers.

In fondo alla cascata era pieno di piccoli ristoranti...cioè dei tavolini e qualche tajine...comunque la vista era stupenda e il cibo buonissimo!!!

With a wonderfull view on the falls we found a little restaurant...well, just few tables and tajines...but really good food!!!

Poi come sempre dove ci sono un po' di turisti...ci sono bancarelle di tutte le merci possibili e immaginabili...lo dice anche l'insegna!!!

And then, as in any turistic place, there were little shops, selling a bit of everything...it's written even in the sign!!!

OUT OF MARRAKECH part 1

Una gita fuori porta...è già sembra di essere catapultati in un altro mondo! capre e pecore (sempre accompagnate da pastori), una diga che forma un lago, l'unico bacino d'acqua vicino a marrakech. e...asini, asini ovunque. per trasportare persone, merci, acqua.

Few minutes by car, out of town and...you're in another world! sheep and goats, eating the few green plants they can find (always with the shepherd lokking after them), a dam that create a lake and....donkeys, everywhere. they transport people, goods, water.

Sincronetto???

Guardate cos'ho trovato vagando nella rete...e soprattutto per le amiche sincronettes...avete visto che punte?????

Ecco la grande piazza principale di Marrakech. Ci si trova di tutto, incantatori di serpenti, donne che disegnano le mani con l'henné, bancarelle di succo d'arancia e frutta secca...

poi da lì si parte per un'immersione nel souk, il mercato. è un esperienza da provare, ci sono merci di ogni tipo: kaftan, jallaba, babouche, lampade, scatole, gioielli...insomma di tutto e di più!!!
